Scenery Design HELP and TOOLS

Scenery Design Help and Tools

Let's Create some FS Scenery

Thanks for visiting my scenery design help page. I've created this web page to help my fellow FS users learn how much fun it is to create "FREEWARE" scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator. I hope to add more tutorials for the different types of scenery programs and tools. Please e-mail me if you have or know of a link that you feel should be added here.

Because of my moral values, I believe that one should NOT get GREEDY with their fun HOBBY and charge money or compensation for creating add-on FS files.  For this reason, "DO NOT" download or view the below tutorials if your going to create pay ware FS scenery add-on files using the knowledge from within them.  I will only help and support FREEWARE intentions.  Pay ware is a rip-off of the FS community.

I STRONGLY support "FREEWARE  ONLY" for FS add-ons

SOME UP FRONT THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW FIRST

Time

Designing and creating a scenery is very time consuming. Although I don't use a time clock while creating my Bush Pilot sceneries, I'm sure I have at least 30 to 40 hours in creating each of my scenery designs. I feel the beginner should know this up front, as Scenery Design will frustrate you if you think your going to "make a quick one". For me, the real enjoyment comes from creating something that looks as realistic as I can, and when it's "AS REAL AS I CAN GET IT", as there are some limitations, flying the sceneries gives me all the challenge of Bush Pilot flying and of course I really enjoy knowing other's enjoy my sceneries too.

Realism and Frame Rates!

Creating a scenery for your own use is one thing, but if you wish to upload your scenery designs to other FS users, than it's important to create your sceneries realistic looking "AS REAL AS IT GETS" and not just a runway and a few buildings. I've seen many of these types of sceneries and they’re NOT the types I enjoy or keep. Creating a realistic looking scenery means taking the time to add details like trees, roads, rivers, lakes, static aircraft, more buildings, and etc. However, at the same time if you add too much scenery, you'll get poor frame rates. While creating your scenery, please keep this in mind as a jerky FS screen takes away from fun and realism.

Area16N  Place the Flatten Information directly into the scenery bgl file that FS reads.  Doing this will make it so our fellow FS users will NOT have to enter the FS Scenery Library or have to mess with the FS Scenery.cfg file for a flatten switch.  This short and easy to understand tutorial is created for those that are using a scenery design program that doesn't support this option, like the Airport scenery design program.
